By Bus – The number 8 and 9 Firstbus bus services run from the city centre through Clifton with a bus stop right outside the building on Pembroke Road.  From North Bristol, the number 505 Wessex service runs from Southmead Hospital through Horfield and Henleaze, and stops at Bristol Zoo which is a 5 min walk away.

By Train – Clifton train station is a 10 minute walk away. You will find the Temple Meads to Avonmouth route with regular services throughout the day.

By Bicycle – There are railings on site for you to securely lock your bike to.

The roads surrounding the college are restricted to permit holders or pay & display, £1 per hour or free after 5pm.

You can come into the college to collect one of their permits  to use for on-street parking for Monday – Friday 9am to 5pm (available on a first come first served basis). Permits must be signed in an out.

There might be free parking at The Downs. This is a great opportunity for a beautiful walk around The Downs after your treatment.

Client Information – Covid Specific

Welcome back!

In light of Covid-19, please pay attention to the following information. This ensures we minimise risk for ourselves and other users of BCMB, and that I am acting in accordance with government, governing body and clinic requirements.

Before your appointment

When booking your appointment I ‘ll send you a link to the online Covid-19- Screening & Consultation Form. Please provide me with your email address at the time of  booking in order for me to send you the form via Google Forms.

If you prefer I can send you a word document which you can fill in an email back to me.  I’m also very happy to go through the form over the phone with you. Please give me a message and we can arrange a time for this. You will only need to fill this once but please it is your responsibility to keep me informed if there are any changes before future appointments.

I will then assess the information provided and arrange a call back. Please do let me know what is the best time for you.

For regular clients, it will be a 5 minutes check in chat to see how you are and plan your appointment.

For new clients, it will be a more thorough initial consultation and your time to ask me questions you may have. This should take around 15 minutes.  I usually take payment in advance via bank transfer to confirm your booking.

On the day of the appointment

Are you feeling well? Have you got a high temperature, persistent cough, shortness of breath or any other Covid-19 Symptom? If you’re not well please give me a text or email immediately and we can reschedule when you are better.

What to bring

Essential:

  • your own mask to be worn inside the building and during your treatment (cut the elastic ear straps before throwing it away as animals may become entangled)
  • a drape to cover yourself during the treatment (in place of the brushed cotton sheets I provided before Covid-19). I recommend a single flat sheet, body sarong, large towel, single duvet cover, etc. It just needs to be large enough to cover you and soft enough for me to fold back to uncover the areas I will be working on. Your sheets, towels and blankets may get a little marked from the massage oils used.  You may choose to designate specific items as your ‘massage kit’ during this time.

Optional:

  • for added comfort you can bring a single fitted sheet to put underneath you
  • you are also welcome to bring a blanket for warmth if you think you may need it (the room might be cooler than normal due to extra ventilation)
  • if you get cold feet make sure you either bring a drape long enough to cover them, an extra small towel  or some warm socks
  • Drinking water and tissues
  • Please leave anything non-essential at home or safely in the boot of your car

Arriving at the Massage Space

Please arrive on time as there is currently no waiting room facility. I’ll  meet you at the entrance and will open the door  so you won’t have to touch anything.

Please scan the venue specific QR code using the NHS COVID-19 app if you have downloaded it. (If you have to provide details of contacts to test and trace (or equivalent), please categorise the massage therapist contact as ‘healthcare’ and not a ‘general’ contact.)

I will ask you to remove your shoes, wash/sanitise your hands and I will check your temperature. We can then head to the treatment room. There will be a chair/box for you to pop all your clothes and belongings. We’ll have a short chat and check in and I ‘ll leave you to get changed and onto the couch as usual.

During the treatment

I’ll ‘knock’ on the door and you’ll let me know that you are ready for me to come in. As usual I’ll check in for pressure and you are always welcome to ask for more or less pressure or express anything you are feeling. As the room is more enclosed, it has been advised that talking is kept to a minimum. I’d like to think of this in a way where you can have some time for yourself and relax in stillness . We can have our usual catch up chat when we finish the session and we can keep some distance.

After the treatment

I’ll signal to you when the treatment has ended and will step outside the room to let you get changed. We can talk through any aftercare and book in our next appointment. I’ll walk you to the exit door.

What to Expect from Me

I will be wearing appropriate PPE, using freshly sanitised equipment and leaving longer gaps between clients to allow for thorough cleaning and room ventilation. I will also postpone treatments if I have any concern about my wellness or exposure to anyone with Covid-19. I will give you as much notice as possible in this instance.

I am adding an extra layer of Covid-safety by doing lateral flow tests. Although this is not mandatory, I encourage you to do the same before attending an appointment with a close contact service. You are able to order test kits on-line (pack of 7 available) or pick them up from a local test centre (pack of 14 available) free of charge. Below is the government link for further information on how to do this:

https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests

Prices

Prices will remain the same as they were before Covid-19:

  • £50 per 60 minutes session
  • £75 for 90 minutes session

I want to make massage available for everybody, so please get in contact if you cannot afford set prices. I will try to offer a viable solution according to your means available.

Payment can be made in advance by bank transfer or on the day by card or cash. If you usually bring cash to the session please bring the correct amount. Please do let me know if you have a gift voucher at the time of booking. Gift Vouchers are valid up to six months from date of purchase.

What can I expect from a session

The start of your massage session

During your first appointment, we will go through a confidential and private consultation to establish relevant information about you and your life so we can decide the best treatment. The conversation will give me insight into any areas that may need particular attention, as well as how you are feeling and what you want from your massage; each treatment is different. It also provides an opportunity for you to ask questions.

On following appointments we will always have a brief update to know if anything has changed and agree the treatment for the session.

Please try to arrive five minutes before your appointment is due to start. To gain the maximum benefit of the treatment refrain from the consumption of alcohol and eat lightly before your massage.

During your treatment

I value your feedback during the session; you are welcome to simply let go and receive the massage we agreed or you can be actively engaged and share parts of your experience guiding me in the massage process.

As the massage progresses, I will check in with you if you need more or less pressure or you are too cold or too hot. Blankets and cushions are always available.

The end of your session

Once you have had time to gently get up from the couch, dress and have a drink of water, there will be time to discuss the session if necessary. We can talk through any aftercare that might be useful to maximise and maintain the benefits of the massage, and we can point out areas we might want to explore or work on in future treatments.

It is advisable to drink plenty of water afterwards to help flush down any toxins which may have been released from the muscles into the circulatory system during the session. If possible, avoid rushing around too much.

How many sessions

The number of treatments needed will vary as everyone is different.

After a session there is a short period of adjustment as part of the healing process. Sometimes clients notice improvement after only one or two sessions and some need support for longer to get back to a place where they are feeling well. Many return when they experience challenges or pain resurface while others come back periodically to help maintain health and well-being.

On your first visit depending on your aims and treatment reasons together we can agree a treatment plan.

In some cases weekly massage may be needed for a while. Once your body starts to heal, regular monthly treatments will help prevent painful areas flaring up again.

Clothing and privacy

I will ask you to undress just as far as you feel comfortable and will leave you in privacy to do so. You can choose to undress fully, or keep your underwear, or more clothing, on. The choice is yours.

Once on the massage couch you will be covered with a cotton sheet throughout the treatment, and I will only uncover the part of you that I am about to work on at that time, making sure that you are comfortable.

We can work with oil on skin or through clothes or sheet, as necessary. Seated massage is also an option if you are more comfortable that way. Let the treatment begin!

Contraindications

Treatment is not advisable under some medical conditions. If in doubt, please consult your GP or call me before your session to discuss any existing medical conditions.

If you are pregnant or are undergoing medical treatment, please mention this at the time of booking.

Confidentiality

All information you tell me is strictly confidential, solely used for the purpose of customizing your treatment.
